Regular rehearsals are at St Teresa’s Hall on Connaught Road, Sidmouth.

Every other Monday 7.30pm - 9.30pm

It began with a challenge - why not Sidmouth? Professional voice coach, Colleen Bleazard picked up the challenge and agreed to lead a one off gospel workshop in Sidmouth on 6th September 2003 and we’ve never looked back.

When Colleen emigrated to Australia in May 2005 we had a 'year out' before the wonderful John Montgomery took over the leadership until April 2009. In the summer of 2009 the very talented Andrew Hague joined us as musical director before leaving in 2010 to start his own choirs in the area. Founder member Angie Carney was then encouraged and supported to step up and lead the choir which she did brilliantly until July 2016 when she felt it was time to move on to fresh challenges. She is now Community Development Manager for The Salvation Army in Sidmouth.

The story of Sidmouth Gospel Choir

I'm gonna make a gospel record and tell Jesus I cannot bear these burdens alone.

“Blues are the songs of despair, but gospel songs are the songs of hope.”

Kim Pritchard

Kim took over the leadership in September 2016 having originally joined the choir in January 2008, singing in the soprano section. During her time in the choir she became part of the organising team, led the physical warm ups, sang solos, led the soprano section and more recently has arranged and taught songs as well as leading the choir when required, assuming the unofficial role of Angie's deputy!

Kim’s background is primarily in Dance. She has taught at Richard Huish College in Taunton since September 2008. She is currently Course Manager for A Level Dance and also teaches A Level Drama and Theatre. Kim feels it's a joy and a privilege to now be choir leader of SGC!

Clive 'Sam' Salmon

Our band leader is the excellent Clive 'Sam' Salmon who is a past member of the celebrated soul band 'Joey the Lips'. Sam has played with a number of soul, funk and jazz bands, accompanied many stage performances and performed as a solo musician. He plays the piano as well as the guitar and is also a composer and songwriter, having recorded some original material, including gospel, as well as cover numbers.

He played and sang on a recording of David Bowie's 'Heroes' for Children in Need with Suzi Quatro, The Kinks, Bronski Beat, The Rubettes and the All-Crucial British Soul Band among others. Sam can read music but plays completely by ear and most enjoys putting his own stamp on the music, jazzing it up and helping others to develop their love of singing.
